Types of Food Poisoning:

Generally, it is assumed that there is only one type of food poisoning, which is bacterial food poisoning. But to break this preconceived notion, let us tell you that there are more than 250 types of food poisoning. However, here we have discussed a few of the important ones:

1. Norovirus Poisoning:strong>The most common type of food poisoning is norovirus, which is highly contagious too. This type of poisoning is caused when someone consumes food or water that is contaminated. It can also be caused when you touch your face after touching a contaminated surface.

2. Rotavirus Poisoning: A type of food poisoning that causes vomiting, diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps along other intestinal symptoms is known as rotavirus poisoning. This type of food poisoning is common among infants and children.

3. Salmonella Poisoning: This type of poisoning is caused when you consume undercooked or raw poultry or eggs. This type of poisoning gets severe in summer because the bacteria causing food poisoning survive better in warm weather.

4. Clostridium Perfringens Poisoning: This type of food poisoning can cause diarrhea and stomach pain and this is caused when you consume meat or poultry products kept unrefrigerated for a longer period.

5. Listeriosis Poisoning: This food poisoning causes severe headaches, stiffness in the neck, nausea, fever, and muscle pain. Its symptoms are variable in pregnant women and can cause symptoms similar to flu. It is caused because of the presence of listeria and mainly affects pregnant or lactating women, newly born babies, elderly people, and people with weak immunity.

Prevention Techniques of Food Poisoning:

Food poisoning is easy to tackle both in terms of prevention and cure. Some of the simplest measures that you can take as prevention techniques for poisoning are given below:

1. Follow Hygienic Habits: The countertop you have been using for cooking your food is a host for numerous germs and bacteria, when you use the utensils and this top for preparing meals germs get attached to it and can cause poisoning. Therefore, it is always clean your hands while cooking and before eating.

2. Use Clean Utensils: Always use washed utensils for cooking, serving, and eating.

3. Rinse Food Items: It is always advisable to rinse fruits and vegetables before consumption, but never wash them together with meat or poultry as they contaminate fruits and vegetables with harmful germs.

4. Store Raw Meat Separately: Raw meats carry food poisoning-causing bacteria and hence should be kept separate from other food items.
